The Gaby trench coat

Gaby is our version of the good trench coat: easy, stylish, sublime, practical, ecological, robust, water-repellent and breathable. A great iconic classic, revisited with a Patine sauce to make it the piece that you will wear all the time and for many years. It brings cool to the classic, from classic to cool, it works in all seasons on more or less layers of clothing.

Eye for detail

The Gaby trench coat is a great iconic classic, but not boring. We can have fun with all these details which are anything but superfluous: the length is designed to suit young and old alike, the corozo buttons are sublime, the straps at the wrists and the belt give it a vintage side. The Gaby trench or responsible luxury? Completely.

18 months to make our trench coat , as long as writing a novel. And more than 2000 of you helped us with your answers and your desires.

Why is this trench coat more conscious than any other?

Disclaimer: The most responsible trench coat on earth is the one you already own and love wearing.

As for the new trench coats, we can say that Gaby is a great option from a footprint and sustainability point of view: for the weaving and manufacturing of the Gaby material we have chosen responsible and high-quality materials, we have carried out very thorough traceability of each step, favored partners using less energy-intensive and low-pollution methods, and created a design that we will love for several years.
From the gabardine to the lining and the tailoring, we surrounded ourselves with partners specializing in outerwear, with a focus on technical clothing. We wanted a trench coat that was elegant but with a touch of technicality in the material that made it suitable for our modern lives.
Our trench coat is made from 55% GOTS-certified organic cotton grown in Turkey and 45% Biofeel polyamide. The latter is innovative because it is made from 64% bio-sourced resources, including non-edible castor oil from India, transformed into polyamide in Italy. Biofeel polyamide stands out for its technical properties, offering an attractive alternative to traditional polyamide, which is entirely derived from petroleum.
The fabric is woven, dyed, and treated with a PFAS-free water-repellent product in Italy, and we source our buttons. These buttons are eco-friendly and made from milk casein (food industry waste).
Our trench coat is then crafted in Portugal, in a factory specializing in high-end clothing, equipped with state-of-the-art automated machinery to ensure precision and quality in every detail. This factory is GOTS, SMETA, GRS, and WRS certified, guaranteeing high standards in terms of the environment and working conditions.

How to maintain it?

The Adventures of the Gaby Trench Coat Edition 1

Left photo - Artist Natacha Paschal in front of her work and in a trench coat, QED. Gaby in NYC (the version without the CO2 from the plane). Among your thousands of descriptions of the trench coat of your dreams, there was this: "It's the one New York stars wear in caps and jogging pants." - Manon A.

1 - You look so good in Gaby : you posed for us in the sublime trench coat and it was crazy. Here is Masul, manager of a vintage store with a sharp selection and an adorable dog.

2- Lilac in full model development at our partners in Portugal. What a treat!

FAQ - All about the Gaby 002 trench coat

I'm hesitating between 2 sizes, what advice do you have to make sure I don't make a mistake?

Gaby is available in three sizes: XS/S - M/L - XL/XXL.

It is designed to be oversized, take your usual size.

I'm “small”, I'm afraid it's too long!

We believe length is the secret to stylish trench coats.

We wanted Gaby to be “just long enough” for a crazy look, but one that didn’t trip us up or make us look like we’d stolen a giant’s coat.

This length was refined thanks to you during the fittings from 1m60 to 1m82 (anyone?).

Very important: our experiments were always carried out in Converse, since that's how we wear them, the Patina woman runs everywhere.

Does this trench coat protect against rain?

Yes! The gabardine armor provides initial resistance to light rain and its water-repellent properties are reinforced by the application of a C0 water-repellent product (without fluorinated molecules, therefore without PFAS)

Why did you evolve the material?

For this new edition of Gaby, we wanted to go even further on the impact. We also wanted to work with a slightly denser material which makes it less crease-prone, with a slight, semi-silky effect, very easy to live with (and then extremely beautiful!)

Can I wear it over a sweatshirt or a big sweater?

Yes! It was designed for that.

The cut is oversized and the sleeves have the volume needed for layering without weighing down the silhouette.

If the size doesn't fit, can I exchange my trench coat?

Yes, absolutely within 14 days, on the simple condition that it is still labeled, unworn, unstained, undamaged, unwashed.
We always manufacture additional parts to allow you to exchange them within 48 hours.

How was the price of the trench coat determined?

As with the entire Patine catalog, the price is determined based on costs.
- First, the cost of the material. The material is a gabardine woven in Italy whose weave provides initial resistance to light rain. The water-repellent properties are reinforced by the application of a C0 water-repellent product (without fluorinated molecules, the famous PFAS). Beyond its significantly reduced environmental impact compared to usual technical materials, it is an ultra-high-end material, with breathable and durable properties, and a sublime drape.
- Then the cost of making. The trench is made in Portugal in a workshop at the forefront of innovation that collaborates with the biggest names in luxury...and now Patine. Our construction and finishing choices are expensive, but we considered them essential for the trench's durability. For example, the interior finishes are entirely covered with bias binding and French seams to reinforce important seams. These finishes are left visible because they are so high-end and solid: you'll think of us the next time you see a lined trench coat... The manufacturing price was negotiated, but respects our commitment to ethical remuneration.
- Other costs: the price also includes the costs of developing the project (the time and expertise of the brilliant model maker who collaborates with Patine, the prototypes, the technical tests, etc.), transport and our operating costs.
- Finally we apply 20% VAT.
- Regarding the weight of each of these costs in the price: our investments in advertising, muses, and influence are limited. We do not make many markdowns and we refrain from inflating our prices to include a promotional budget.
- Important: The Patine brand is mainly distributed directly on the website and in our store. If we were to move to a traditional "wholesale" distribution, that is to say in a multi-brand store, we would have to increase the price to compensate our store partners. For information purposes, we estimate that the price of the trench coat would increase to approximately €650 instead of €450, while maintaining margin coefficients in the lower average of the market.
To conclude :
- There are as many prices, ways of deciding on prices and price structures as there are brands.
- A price is not necessarily indicative of the quality, durability and environmental impact of a garment.
- The notion of quality differs depending on the brand. At Patine, it is defined by a triptych of aesthetics, durability, and commitment.
- We don't claim our prices are low. However, we do claim a very low cost per wear. We are building an innovative brand model every day that offers unprecedented value for money.
